She gained popularity through her 1996 album Tidal, especially with the single “Criminal”, and because of the music video made for it. Her music is fundamentally based on very personal poetic verses, accompanied by often aggressive and progressive production, rooted equally in early jazz, pop, electronica, and alt-rock. Erica Abi Wright : Erykah Badu (born February 26, 1971), better know by her stage name Erykah Badu American R&B, soul, and hip hop singer and songwriter, whose work encompasses elements of jazz. She is best known for her role in the rise of the neo soul sub-genre, and for her eccentric, cerebral musical stylings and sense of fashion. Early in her career she was recognizable for wearing very large and colorful headwraps. For her musical sensibilities, she has often been compared to jazz great Billie Holiday. She was a core member of the Soulquarians, and is also an actress having appeared in a number of films playing a diverse range of supporting roles in movies such as “Blues Brothers 2000,” “Cider House Rules,” and “House of D.”

Jewel Kilcher : Jewel (born May 23, 1974) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, poet and philanthropist, generally known just by her first name, Jewel. She has received three Grammy Award nominations. Her debut album Pieces of You became one of the best selling debut albums of all time going platinum twelve times.

Jewel learned to play the guitar while on scholarship at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan, where she majored in operatic voice. She started writing songs at the age of seventeen.

For a time, she was poverty-stricken and lived in her van while traveling about the country doing street performances and small gigs. She gained some recognition by singing at the Innerchange Coffeehouse and Java Joe’s in San Diego, California. Her friend Steve Poltz’s band, The Rugburns, played the same venues. Jewel later collaborated with Poltz on some of her songs, including ” You Were Meant For Me.” (He also appeared in the second, best-known, video for this song.) The Rugburns opened for Jewel on her Tiny Lights tour in 1997. Poltz appeared in Jewel’s band on the Spirit World Tour 1999 playing guitar.

The Corrs
The Corrs are a Celtic folk rock group from Dundalk, Ireland. The group consists of the Corr siblings: Andrea (vocals, tin whistle); Sharon (violin, vocals); Caroline (drums, percussion, bodhrán, vocals); and Jim (guitar, keyboards, vocals).

The Corrs came to international prominence with their performance at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Since then, they have released five studio albums and numerous singles, which have reached platinum in many countries. Talk on Corners, their most successful album to date, reached multi-platinum status in Australia and the UK.

Poe : Annie Decatur Danielewski (born March 23, 1968), professionally known as Poe, first hit the modern rock charts in the mid-1990s. She is the daughter of Polish film director Tad Danielewski and his wife, Priscilla Machold. Poe is also the sister of author Mark Z. Danielewski.

Poe’s musical style is an unusual blend of folk, rock, and electronica elements backing intimate lyrical compositions. Poe appeared in the movie Gossip performing the song “My Lips are Sealed” (a cover of The Go-Go’s’ “Our Lips Are Sealed”), and as a CGI character, Mary Magdalene/Plague, in the PlayStation game, Apocalypse. Apocalypse also featured an alternate version of her song, “Control”, later released on Haunted. In November of 2007 Poe began collecting MP3 recordings of dream accounts on her website Repoezessed.

Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor (Russian: Регина Спектор; born February 18, 1980) is a Soviet Union-born Russian American singer-songwriter and pianist. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centered on New York City’s East Village.

Spektor was originally interested only in classical music, but later became interested in hip hop, rock and punk as well. Although she had always made up songs around the house, Spektor first became interested in more formal songwriting during a visit to Israel with the Nesiya Institute in her teenage years when she attracted attention from the other children on the trip for the songs she made up while hiking and realized she had an aptitude for songwriting.
